My name is Celeste, and I am a documentarian, researcher, and storyteller who weaves tales in which academia dances with creativity. My work is a tapestry of analogue techniques and semiotic research, exploring the vibrant crossroads of culture, identity, and memory. From the intricate patterns of Moroccan carpets and the ancient symbols of Amazigh tattoos to the timeless narratives of San storytelling and the graffiti-clad walls of Prague, I delve into the heart of diverse traditions.
As a fervent traveller, I embrace every opportunity to immerse myself in the rich tapestries of heritage and history, crafting stories that brim with symbolism. My creative journey is a slow dance, embracing analogue photography, alternative hand-printing methods, and immersive fieldwork. I traverse the realms of photography, material culture, and research, unravelling how memory, place, and symbols persist through the ages. My practice flows between analogue photographic processes, semiotic analysis, and field-based learning, focusing on how knowledge is sculpted through creation, repetition and lived experience.
My research encompasses 35 mm analogue photography, alternative photographic processes such as Kallitype and cyanotype, the symbolic language of Amazigh carpets and tattoos, and the visual politics of Prague’s graffiti. An enduring fascination with time, materiality, and the ethics of slow research weaves these threads together. Journeying through locales such as Morocco and Prague, I engage with both scholarly frameworks and lived knowledge systems, acknowledging that meaning is a fluid entity shaped by context, transmission, and practice.
