It is a balancing act for the Khomani San as they preserve their traditions while moving forward in the 21st century. The San do not live nomadic lives anymore and splintered over the years. Only a few still speak Nama and Nuqi. The familiar click sounds are fast disappearing as the youth speaks Afrikaans. Progress is slow after the historic land claim in 1999, but the community is gaining back their heritage. “Veldskool” teach young Khomani San children about their heritage, traditions, animal tracking, insects, and bird and plant life.
